Where we are in the planning process.

Our brief was to design a Premier Inn hotel that meets our operational requirements, whilst also suiting the surroundings of Dorchester. The new hotel also needs to align with Whitbread’s objective of becoming a net zero business (for scope 1 and 2 emissions) by 2040. Following public consultation and review of the feedback received, we have submitted our planning application to Dorset Council. The application and all associated documents can be viewed under ref P/FUL/2024/02583 on the Dorset Council planning portal.

We have spent many months first finding what we believe is the right site in the town and also working on our current design for the hotel.

It’s really important to us that the new building fits into the local neighbourhood, creating a comfortable, affordable and attractive place for visitors to stay, as well as providing significant investment into jobs and the local economy.

We have been keen to find out what the local community thinks of our plans for a hotel in the heart of Dorchester. We spoke to Dorchester Town Council, Dorset Council and other local organisations about our plans for the site. We shared our developing plans with the public at a public exhibition and an online webinar, held on 6th and 7th September 2023.

Attendees at these events were able to see the emerging plans for the new hotel, ask questions and hear from the team about what we are proposing and the benefits we will bring to Dorchester. We would like to thank everyone who attended these events for their interest and their feedback, which helped to shape our revised proposals contained within the planning application we recently submitted to Dorset Council. The council are now carrying out their own statutory consultation, under ref P/FUL/2024/0258, where you can leave comments until 21st June 2024.
